Public & Local Timelines

Home Timeline

The Home Timeline is a stream of posts from users & hashtags that you follow. It’s the main timeline you’ll see when you log in. Your followed users might be on Pedestal or on another instance altogether, they’ll all show up in the Home timeline. Posts are shown in reverse chronological order (most recent first). There are no algorithms here!

In the web view and most apps you can filter the Home Timeline to show only original posts from your follows or also posts that they’ve boosted posted by users you don’t follow.

Local Timeline

The Local Timeline shows all public posts from users on Pedestal.social, whether or not you follow them. This is a great way to find other people on your instance and discover what they’re talking about. During a special event, everyone can post to and watch the local instance to see what everyone else is saying, even if you don’t follow them.

Federated Timeline

The Federated Timeline shows all public posts from instances Pedestal knows about. There are various ways Pedestal may discover other instances (this is called Federation), but mainly this will through people on other instances that users on Pedestal follow.

This is a good place to look if you’re wanting to discover new users to follow. Typically, it will be populated with people & content other Pedestal users have followed or interacted with.
